Since 1751 there has been an Infirmary in Newcastle, with the establishment, in 1906, of the RVI, opened by King Edward VII in July that year.

Over the years the RVI has established a reputation for excellence, being regarded by many with great esteem and affection, not least by its Nursing and Midwifery alumni.

The RVI Nurses' League was founded in 1959 by Miss Freda Shaw, soon after her appointment to the post of Matron to the Royal Victoria Infirmary, in Newcastle upon Tyne.

This site includes information about The League and who we are, why we exist, and membership.
